After two tracks of creepy, black-metal-derived ambient weirdness — “Pale Lights” and “The Place Lives” — I kind of expected all of Mount Eerie’s sure-to-rule Ocean Roar to fit that template. But the title track has thrown that theory out the window. “Ocean Roar” sounds like lo-fi My Bloody Valentine, with Phil Elverum backed by a ghostly choir of female vocals. I was already pretty stoked about the album before hearing this, and now, much more so. Listen.
