Jahan Lennon (Zeb From PO PO) – “Don’t Come Around Here No More” (Tom Petty Cover)

After a years-long wait, PO PO finally released their stellar Dope Boy Magick LP earlier this year as a raga/grunge scuzz-pop outlier on Diplo’s Mad Decent label. It’s one of the year’s most underrated, and well worth the wait, though project mastermind Zeb Malik has already moved on (or at least branched out) in moniker, with his new project Jahan Lennon. (“Jahan” is a Sanskrit-derived word meaning “the world,” and the Lennon is not something I should have to explain here.) The debut release is a freebie cover of Tom Petty’s all-time great “Don’t Come Around Here No More” — with gunshots in place of snare drums in a way that would make Maya proud, and sitar vibrations rightly in tact — and a full EP (plus a Diplo collab) on the way.
