The first line of My Morning Jacket’s “Outta My System is, “They told me not to smoke drugs but I didn’t listen.” The video makes that admission pretty damn explicit, if not entirely unnecessary. The clip is a super-trippy cartoon directed by James Frost, starring an animated MMJ (Jim James is inexplicably a cyclops) and Zach Galifianakis as a wizard. The only thing it’s missing is Johnny Cash playing the Space Coyote. Check it out.

Next week, My Morning Jacket will release their Outta My System – Remixez Y Friendz EP. They’ve recruited people like Washed Out and Dave Sitek to remix “Outta My System,” a track from their 2011 album Circuital. And they’ve helpfully posted the Washed Out remix, which turns the track into smeary synthpop and includes a sample of some philosophical ramblings. Listen to it below.

On Saturday night, My Morning Jacket headlined the Newport Folk Festival, bringing a ton of special guests with them. At various points, Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, Laura Veirs, and Ben Sollee all showed up to help out. And true to the show’s egalitarian roots, the people behind the festival have now thrown the entire 72-minute set up on YouTube so that we all may experience it. Watch the whole show below.
