Passion Pit – “Constant Conversations” Video

In some kind of nutso coup, Passion Pit recruited The Last Picture Show director Peter Bogdanovich, one of the greats of the ’70s golden era of American film, to star in their video for the elegant slow-jam “Constant Conversations.” Bogdanovich really only has a bit part in the video, which takes place at a high-society summertime party where snakes crawl in the bathtub and everyone is secretly hooking up with everyone else. Dori Oskowitz directs.

TEEN – “Electric” Video (Stereogum Premiere)

It’s a rare sort of music video that can win a band a BTW, which makes TEEN’s exquisite clip for “Electric” a definitionally rare sort of video. To be clear, the band earned their hails last week on the back of a pair of eminently postable singles — i.e. “Better,” and the object of this post, the fantastic go-go psych pop of “Electric” — as well as an assured debut LP in In Limbo. But I saw a screening for the “Electric” video before hearing any of that, and was won over: from its smart psychedelic cinematographic tricks to its conceptual choreography, the video serves as a synergistic sound/visual mesh that’s a perfect portal to TEEN’s overarching aesthetic. From Moire effects to Maya Deren movements, this is a proper pairing of imagery and physicality and you should watch:

The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

This was an amazing week for videos, but not a great week for videos with anything in common with each other. Here’s the only narrative I thread I can pull from the five videos below: Two of them are inspirational sports stories, though that’s really all they have in common. So: Olympics? We’ll go with that. Watch the videos below.

The Killers – “Runaways” Video

A couple of weeks ago, the Killers smashed the universe upside the head with “Runaways,” their new and refreshingly gigantic single, a ridiculous song that gets better every time I hear it. It’s the sound of a band figuring out everything that anyone ever liked them for in the first place. And now we get the widescreen-scope video for the song, which keeps things relatively simple. It shows the band bashing away under a mythic American desert sky and on a ledge overlooking their Las Vegas hometown. Warren Fu directs and does a nice job making the Killers look like the biggest band in the world. Watch it below.
